The history of the Singapore Sling

Legend has it that the Singapore Sling, first created by Chinese bartender Ngiam Tong Boon, was the nation’s favourite in the early 1900s. At the time, it wasn’t unusual to see gentlemen drinking alcohol at bars or in public. But for ladies, this was a no-no. This gave Ngiam an idea. What if he could invent a gin cocktail that looked like plain fruit juice? He got to work on it – and even made it pink, which led people to think it was acceptable for women. With that, the Singapore Sling was born, and became an instant hit.

1. SHAKE
